What's happening in Egypt has greatly interested me because of my love for the country and it's glorified history. Since I was a child I have always dreamt of traveling to Egypt to where some of the world's first history is located. But as of right now the people of a culturally rich country are fighting back against an unfair government that has been in place for about thirty years. The citizens have been out on the streets since January 25, 2011 protesting for their rights as citizens. They are becoming a very poor country because of their governments choices and the standard of living has gone down. The police reacted to the protesters with tear gas and firing rubber bullets. A few people were already killed. The difficult part for me is what the U.S. government is doing......or lack of what they are doing. We...because the governements choices reflect the people here have decided to stand back and watch an unrult governement terrorize a group of people that are not unlike ourselves. They want a revolution, freedom and rights that every American is given. We are a country that has prided ourselves on the freedom we give people. Right now we are in Iraq and Afghanastan trying to implement a democratic government where the people do not want it yet, when Egyptians are begging for equality through a democratic system the American system sits back and simply tells their government to please and try not to be violent towards the citizens. The Egyptain gov't has taken away their use of internet and cell phone use so the protesters cannot contact eachother. They're rights are being violated and all America is doing is simply thinking about taking the aid we give their gov't away because the people are being "unruly". And the real kicker here?.....well low and behold we consider Egypt an ally in the middle east. So were turning our backs on a country that is asking for help because they don't have what they have in Afghanistan and Iraq.....oil. The only time America wants to help others is when it benefits them.
